Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 25
at 6:30 p.m. in the Crying Room.

We are currently reading and discussing, Mother Teresa: Come Be My Light

Please consider the material below for our meeting.

Scriptural Passage: John 4: 5-12

A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” His disciples had gone into the town to buy food. The Samaritan woman said to him, “How can you, a Jew, ask me, a Samaritan woman, for a drink?” —For Jews use nothing in common with Samaritans.— Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God and who is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,‘ you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” The woman said to him, “Sir, you do not even have a bucket and the cistern is deep; where then can you get this living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us this cistern and drank from it himself with his children and his flocks?” Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again; but whoever drinks the water I shall give will never thirst; the water I shall give will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I may not be thirsty or have to keep coming here to draw water.”
Mother Teresa promised to satisfy the thirst for souls that Christ had through her work on behalf of the poor. When we look at our own lives do we see some similarities between our service to others and the work of Mother Teresa and her sisters? How so?

Quotations to Consider

1. Page 323

“All for Jesus”
When we look at ourselves, are our lives lived “All for Jesus”?
What does this require of us?

2. Page 326

“May our Lady be a mother to you and help you to stand beneath the Cross with great love.”
By the way we live and serve others, are we steadfast in standing below the cross?
What does it take to do this?

3. Page 329

“Jesus is asking a bit too much.”
Have we felt this way? What were the circumstances?

4. Page 331

“True love is surrender.”
Is this true for us?
How?

5. Page 333

“Even so, her mission continues: from heaven, She still responds to Jesus’ call, “Come be my light.”
Do we believe our life’s mission will continue in heaven and grow stronger and more powerful?

6. Page 337

“And Mother had to pay the price.”
Have we been willing to pay the price to bring Christ’s goodness and love to others?

7. Page 336

“She always led us to Jesus, especially in very difficult times.”
Do we do this for others? For ourselves?

8. Page 340

“Tell Mother, my freind, the light she lit in my life is still burning.”
We can have a similar affect on others bringing God’s light to people which, will burn brightly long after we have gone.
.
Can we see ourselves having this type of impact on others?

Please God YES.

This for me was an enormously challenging book. I hope it was beneficial for you as well. I look forward to seeing everyone on the 25th of March and wish you all a holy and happy Easter.

Scriptural Passage is from Timothy, 2 Tm 1:1-8

Paul, an Apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God for the promise of life in Christ Jesus, to Timothy, my dear child: grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
I am grateful to God, whom I worship with a clear conscience as my ancestors did, as I remember you constantly in my prayers, night and day. I yearn to see you again, recalling your tears, so that I may be filled with joy, as I recall your sincere faith that first lived in your grandmother, Lois and in your mother, Eunice and that I am confident lives also in you.
For this reason, I remind you to stir into flame the gift of God that you have through the imposition of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather of power and love and self-control. So do not be ashamed of your testimony to our Lord, nor of me, a prisoner for his sake; but bear your share of hardship for the Gospel with the strength that comes from God.
How do we "stir" our gifts that God has given us?
What are our gifts and how do we use them for the benefit of others?
Do we have the courage to act on our faith under daily and difficult circumstances?
Do we rely on God for us to bear the hardships we experience?

Questions:

1. Page 123

"My God, give me courage now-this moment to persevere in following your call."
How many times have we prayed this prayer in our lives? What were the circumstances?

2. Page 130

"I am just as happy now to do God's Holy Will. It cost what it may."
Have we ever given of ourselves without thinking of the cost to ourselves, even just a little?

3. Page 139

"In my meditations and prayers which are so full of distractions nowadays- there stands one thing very clear-my weakness and His Greatness. I fear all things from my weakness-but I trust blindly His Greatness."
Do we?

3. Page 139

"In my meditations and prayers which are so full of distractions nowadays- there stands one thing very clear-my weakness and His Greatness. I fear all things from my weakness-but I trust blindly His Greatness."
Do we?

4. Page 140

"Grab the chance to offer something to Jesus."
Do we do this? Why/why not?

5. Page 156

"Be brave and keep smiling-You know He loves you with a tender, eternal love."
How often do we need to remind ourselves of this?

6. Page 156

"A carrier of God's love.
Are we? How?

7. Page 168

"God alone, God everywhere, God in everybody and in everything. God always."
How would our lives be different if we lived this?

8. Page 169

"Happy to be nobody even to God."
What does this mean to us? How would this affect our lives?

As you can see this book is rich with thoughts to contemplate.
I look forward to seeing everyone on 4 February.
May God bless and keep you all

Monday 17 December

Gospel Passage is from the book of Matthew, Mt 17:9a, 10-13

As they were coming down from the mountain, the disciples asked Jesus, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?” He said in reply, “Elijah will indeed come and restore all things; but I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him but did to him whatever they pleased. So also will the Son of Man suffer at their hands.” Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.
We are more than half way through Advent. Are we continuing our preparation for the coming of the Lord. Have we considered what the impact of the Jesus entering world has on our lives. How it affects how we behave. Do others see the light of Christ in us?

1. Page 27

"Give me strength to be always the light of their lives and so to lead them to You."
In our Advent preparation are we leading people to God? Do others see Christ's peace, kindness, humility, patience, and love in us?

2.

"If I ever become a Saint- I will surely be one of darkness. I will continually be absent from Heaven-to light the light of those in darkness on earth.”
Mother Teresa already had a focus beyond this life and planned her work in the next. Do we have the same vision?

3.

“Now Father-since 49 or 50 this terrible sense of loss-this untold darkness-this loneliness this continual longing for God-which gives me that pain deep down in my heart-"
Have we ever experienced a longing for God who seemed not to be present?
What did we do during that time?

4. Page 6

"I am only His instrument - why so much about me- when the work is all His. I hold no claim to it. It was given to me."
Do we see our work as been given to us? If so why. If not why not?

5. Page 13

"Put your hand in His [Jesus'] hand and walk alone with Him. Walk ahead because if you look back you will go back."
Are we looking forward towards our Lord, our own salvation focusing on what are to do now and not what we should have done before?
What are our feelings about this?

6. Page 34

"Don't look for big things, just do small things with great love."
Do we?
Our thoughts on what we do in this regard.

7. Page 34

"Yes my dear children, be faithful in little practices of love, of little sacrifices-of the little interior mortification-of little fidelities to Rule, which will build in you the life of holiness-make you Christ like."
Do we practice little interior fidelities to our faith-to our God?
Have we a sense of reflecting more of the qualities of Jesus' life?

I am sure you are becoming aware that this book is going to expand our thinking, our spirituality, our relationship with God. Please let it!
Until then may you rest in Christ's peace.
Lou
